CHERYL'S TRADING POST: AUTHENTIC NATIVE ART

When you choose a beautiful piece from our Native family owned and operated store, you are helping to lift up an artist but also their families, our family and our shared communities.

We bring in the work of those who are deeply rooted in culture and traditional practice. Each piece you view is a testament to many years of practicing their art and living their cultural and artistic values.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST NATIVE CARVINGS

Carving is an ancient tradition amongst Northwest Coast First Nations of the Pacific Northwest.

Beautiful and ornate, simple and utilitarian, everyday objects and ceremonial items—such is the diverse nature of Pacific Northwest Coast Native Carvings.

These highly prized works of art grace public buildings, private collections and local museums and galleries.

As you explore the Pacific Northwest, you come across ingenious and skilled examples of furniture, houses, serving dishes, cooking utensils, storage boxes, canoes, masks, rattles, paddles, talking sticks and many other items carved and painted with bold lines, deep grooves and distinctive Formline shapes.

Totem and Welcome Poles greet you as you approach First Nation communities. They speak of the families who live there, tell the stories of their deeds, their ancestors and the Supernatural Beings who share our spirit world. It is an artform that takes years to develop masterful carving skills.

Artists work with established carvers to learn the various tools and techniques that transform select pieces of Cedar and other carving materials into beautiful works of art.

At Cheryl's Trading Post, we choose Authentic, hand carved Masks, Headdresses, Paddles, Wall Panels and Plaques, Bowls, Bentwood Boxes and Chests, Totem Poles, Rattles, Talking Sticks, Pendants and Miniature Masks and Totem Poles that represent the very best of this Indigenous Tradition.

DEEPEN YOUR WORLD: AUTHENTIC NATIVE ART

Dreamcatchers, carvings, Ravens, Eagles and Orcas—Welcome to our world. If you are here, you share our passion for Indigenous art.

Perhaps you love the beautiful lines of our Northwest carving or the bold colours from the many paintings and prints we carry from the artists who live to the south of us, but whatever the reason, you are in the right place.

We get you! We love them, too. It is a passion for us that became a family business. It has been a source of joy, of new and strengthening friendships with customers, artists, vendors, festival sponsors, dancers, singers, drummers—the list goes on!

When you choose a beautiful piece from our Native family-owned and operated store, you are helping to lift up an artist but also their families, our family and our shared communities.

We bring in the work of those who are deeply rooted in culture and traditional practice.

Each piece you view from an artist is a testament to many years of practicing their art and living their cultural and artistic values.

We carry a range of Native art pieces you can bring into your home or give as gifts. Much of the beautiful work reflects the talented artists from the Northwest Coast of British Columbia but we do carry work from farther afield—particularly from the Native Southwest of the USA.

We have a fine selection of Northwest Coast Native Jewelry, Hand Carved Cedar Wall Panels, Cedar Carvings, First Nation Prints, Traditional Indigenous Blankets, Authentic, Handsewn Traditional Moccasins, Dream Catchers and a wide selection of Indigenous Clothing to choose from. And, yes, we ship!

When you make your final selection—and we know it is hard to choose—your choice honours the artist, their lineage, their elders and their teachers before them—and we honour you with our promise to select only the very best, authentic art for you to choose from.

Thank you for sharing our passion. We hope to meet you in person—if we haven't already—at one of the many Indigenous Events in the Pacific Northwest.
